PSP Lord of Arcana (Personal) Review

It's the day I decided to stop wasting time on it. The last boss I engaged was Hecatoncheir after Chapter 7.

It is such a waste of time, that even blogging about it is wasting time. Why do I blog about it? So I can stop complaining to Girl, and I can do better stuff like blog, play SCII or just go watch porn.

Why did I play it till Chapter 7 then? erm besides spending S$50 on the original game thinking it's from Square Enix, the makers of Final Fantasy, I guess it's a human comfort zone thing lol.

It's Final Fantasy wanabe Monster Hunter 3. I should post the preview videos for MH3 and put Square Enix to shame, have they lost their touch? Bloody owner at the corner on the 4th or 5th floor of Funan was like, yea it's like MH. I got it before they were closing for the New Year and I could even hear his unspoken thought: you want, you take, I make like $5 from you and I want to go home for reunion dinner. I saw the game by Square, recalled fond memories and nightmares of being addicted to their Final Fantasy series, opened my wallet, took out $50 and had a $1 change.

Why do I compare it with MH? Because they are copying the elements of MH and failed very badly.

Overall Game Play
I don't even know where to begin. There is no balance in the game, hardly a good story line, no... systematic approach to the creation of new weaponry and armour. That part is always the gamer's addictive part, here, it's just plain confusing and annoying and a total random feel. Heck, there isn't even any fycking explanation for the fycking icons!

Weaponry & Armory
At the start its damn confusing. It's mix and match, and to access the boss info so you know what to prepare, you need to go to the Village girl, access your encyclopedia, go back to the armourer, remember which icon it was for which boss or quest target, and consider.... Making a new weapon or upgrading an existing one, mostly new ones appear after the completion of a chapter.

I really don't know where the guys on Youtube got their, say Vermillon Armour set, cause it never appeared. In fact, there were no armour sets that appeared for me. In MH2, different sets of armour were used to specific purposes to overcome specific boss's abilities, eg, being immune to the roar of the Tigrex or the.. scream of the Purple bird. And it was kept in a nice chest next to the bed in your house, with a nice bed and a kitchen behind.

Stats & Cards
It's confusing because I don't know if a +20 to attack is better than a +2 damage to beast. I took the +20. Then, there's the armour. And the boss 'cards'. I only managed to get the 1st boss card Agni, in like Chapter 5 or 6, because I simply didn't need it, didn't have the money for it, or when I had the money for it, it was all spent on potions. Unbalanced.

Money
Here's the value of money is enhanced. The quests and bosses do so much damage, and a potion restores like a mosquito's penis length of health. So you go for the Hi-Potion, which costs 550. The fastest farming quest is in Chapter 1, from my level 52 till Chapter 7. It takes about 3 minutes to make 2000. Then there's the cost of making new weapons, armour, or to enhance.

I totally get farming, I understand money is never enough but it's just plain super fycking irritatingly unbalanced.

I'm not done!

Quest and Fight Interface: BORING
Items are glowing green or red, red being the better items. Super Boring? Mobs are just walking around, the Minotaurs are masterbating each other with their axe, to engage them, ''touch them'' and zoom, load... FF fight interface. Borrrring.

In MH, you can fish from the sea, herbs are gathered amongst the grass, meat is gathered from some animals. Eggs are obtained from nests, you can also gather honey from honeycombs, heck even dung from the ground behind the cow in your farm. The mobs scream and get excited and charge you as you gather, it's intuitive, real time and... I miss the game :(

Lord of Arcana is all about grinding. Repeating quests to get enough guild points because the makers ran out of ideas, repeating quests to get money because it is unbalanced and the makers ran out of ideas, repeating quests to get 'Cores', which occurs in totally random blinking areas of your quest, so good luck say, if you ever need a Lich core.

Boss Fights
The super irritating part? They don't die when you do enough damage to them. Here, you need to engage them in a 'melee duel'. Assuming you are actually awake by then, it's about pressing X, O, triangle or square in the order the screen appears. If you miss one single button, good luck to you.

Chances are the 'boss' runs away, you are probably out of potions, that... Mosquito's penis length of killing him, and now, you have to find him all over the place, all over again, and hit him enough to engage the 'melee duel' interface.

Oh, you might have a chance to killl him after 10 tries, that's if he doesn't already one shot you. In Lord of Arcana, you have 2 lives. Maybe I suck. I love pussies. Revive #1, you can't even move out of the way without being one shot again.

I totally understand rage mode, boss one shotting us. Give us a chance to run at least or to fight back, especially when you were just that close.

Summary
Need I say more? Well, fine. If you've played MH before, chances are, you have, don't waste your time, even if Square pays you to play it. Erm, this part I take back.

It's probably more suited for those below 10years old, who don't know what to expect in a game, even then I can already hear them...

Mommy I want a new game......
