of Luggages and having it all
Finally picked up the... Damn I forgot and it doesn't really matter series 29" luggage at Suntec after my last trip to UK, few years back. Ok, it is the X Blade Series, Spinner, 80cm or close to 32''
Spent $480 on it, black one! It was a good buy, a difficult decision, where apparently I'm not a decisive person I thought I was, as usual ending up confusing myself with all the different series, prices and before promotion prices to gauge the value of the luggage.
Summary of the end mind block and confusion: the practical side of me thought, a luggage is a rugged item, that is thrown about behind the check in scenes, that is at most, seen in the hotel room, mostly in the store room, and transported from cab to airport, from airport to hotel, and from hotel back to airport.
1. What's on your mind?
An executive set, one big one for travels up to 2 weeks and winter wear, if necessary and one cabin size luggage.
Does it have to be a set?
Actually think about it, no, for the short travels would be independent of the long travels, fuck I don't even travel that often. So it doesn't have to be a set.
2. Black label series
Whilst series sets, are nice to see and have, we were lucky to meet Peter, who very patient with me, gently reminded and dropped some hints in his capacity as a sales person. I said we are paying for the brand, and he said that the material, I think he said armoured nylon, better material and finishing for a executive look, apart from that, hmm. Capacity isn't as big as the one we chose.
Meaning, nice is nice, practical is better, to me, buying a nice looking set may attract unwanted attention from unwanted people, it will still be scratched, thrown about, and will still wear and tear from it's showroom condition.
The former me would have paid $770 for the nicer looking series, felt stupid, and still go for it anyway.
3.Hard Vs Soft cases.
You can't have it all! Yes of course hard cases are more durable, but the capacity inside is very limited, and we cannot pack more stuff inside compared to a soft luggage which may be able to squeeze in that last minute shopping.
Soft cases, depending on the series, can be tough, made of polymide (if I remember), with a mixture of polyester.
Xion series was heavy, Pro DLX II even heavier, but a worthy buy at $372 from over $970, my original intention. But it was too heavy! about 6kg, lucky I didn't buy in impulse from the Funan sales guy.
4. Choice of Layout
One was designed that the luggage was split into two, another was a one sided compartment. Tendency would be for the one sided compartment to 'crush in' when weight is on top of the luggage, but it is ok, it doesn't happen that often, all I need to do is to stack it on top when storing it.
A one sided compartment, with organised toiletry compartment on the other side, with one more extra compartment below it, is much more suited for an organised person like me. The sales person said if you don't like your things to move around and like to be neat, take the one-sided one. Girl knew that was the one for me, she always knows such things, even having a feel of what my father would need, want, and is his for a carrying document/laptop bag but alas, it was over $400.
Anyway it turned out, it was more over a $100 more expensive, the 2-sided one was only $336.00.
Trying to save, made me want to go for it, lucky Girl knew me so well, and she was right, had we bought it, I would keep thinking about it and regretting that decision.
So, one hour later, Girl paid for the luggage and left, I gave many thanks to Peter for his patience and staying with us though the boutique had closed at 9pm.
We can't have it Cheap, Fresh, complete with big Tits, the hokkien saying goes. ^^
